Volunteering at CCS
There are many ways for volunteers to make a world of difference in the lives of our clients and their families. For the latest information about volunteer opportunities, please contact: Cindy Vasquez, Activities/Volunteer Coordinator at 817-921-0653 ext. 221.
Volunteer needs generally include assistance with:
- Mentoring
If you are a cancer survivor and at least one year post-treatment, consider being a mentor and help ease the anxieties of those currently going through the cancer treatments you experienced. Provide information, let them know what they could do to feel better and help them know more about their particular cancer. Contact can be maintained via telephone, visits or meeting at CCS events.
- Thanksgiving Food Drive (seasonal)
With cancer treatment cost and worries being so high, some of our families need assistance in order to have a Thanksgiving meal. Collaborate with your office, school or association to collect non-perishable goods to help feed families in danger of not having a meal this holiday. There is also a need for monetary donations in order to purchase turkeys and pastries.
- Adopt-A-Family Holiday Program (seasonal)
Every holiday season, families who are in financial need and have at least one member in active treatment could receive holiday assistance in the form of gifts and food from the community. Adopt a family and donate gifts or money to bring holiday cheer into their lives. There is also sometimes need for assistance with gift wrapping and the delivery of gifts to their individual homes.
- Special Events
Cancer Care Services hosts special events including festivals, movie nights, seasonal parties, a summer kids camp and more for individual cancer patients and their families. Help is sometimes needed with food preparation, serving, set-up, organization of materials or monitoring children. Special event volunteers must make at least a two hour commitment per event.
- Event Committee (seasonal) Certain events in our community involve rigorous planning and preparation. We need committed individuals to chair a committee or subcommittee. If you have or are looking to gain experience with event planning, promotion or donor relations please contact Cindy for more information.
- Office Assistant
Volunteers are sometimes needed to help with general office duties such as filing client information, making information packets or answering phone calls. Help needed during general office hours 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Hours could be on a fixed schedule or as needed.
